Commemorating the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London in 1666.

The final commemorative £2 coin to enter general circulation. In 2020 the Royal Mint announced that no new £2 coins would be minted for general circulation 'for another ten years.' This was due to the lower demand for these coins generated by not only 'cashless' transactions during the Covid-19 pandemic, but also the release of the new 12-sided £1 coin in 2017 which was flooded into circulation.

This was despite the Royal Mint only annoucing the new Britannia £2 coin reverse in 2015, which consequently only circulated for two years. £2 coins minted in or after 2017 will only feature as part of annual sets or Royal Mint commemative presentation packs.
