A brand new 50p coin release commemorating 20 years of The Gruffalo's Child.
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson is a children's picture book first published in 1999. Illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the story follows a mouse as he makes his way through the woods where he eventually encounters the Gruffalo.
The book is hugely popular and has been adapted into a stage play as well as an Oscar-nominated animated film. The successful franchise has also generated various merchandise featuring the characters from the story, including commemorative 50p coins.
The first Gruffalo coins were minted in 2019 to commemorate 20 years since the book was first published. These coins known as 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gruffalo & Mouse,' (pictured below) did not enter circulation and are therefore highly sought after amongst collectors.
Five years on, the Royal Mint have produced another Gruffalo coin this time commemorating The Gruffalo's Child,' which is the sequel picture book by Donaldson and Scheffler, first published twenty years ago in 2004.
This new 50p design is the first in the range to bear the King Charles portrait and the reverse design depicts a scene from the story of the Gruffalo's child and mouse. (Coloured version pictured above). Once again the coin will not enter circulation, meaning collectors wishing to add this coin to their collection will not be able to find it in their change.
Due to the popularity of commemorative coins and The Gruffalo franchise there is expected to be high demand for this new coin. Don't miss out, buy today from Romiley Coins. View our full Gruffalo 50p range on our website today.
